Cortejo Favela is a play presented in the streets of the Caju Favela (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to occupy public spaces and democratize access to culture within the community.

The play starts by telling the story of the 'favelas' origin to then get to the Caju Community and its own story. Situated along Rio's harbor region, Caju is one of the city's communities forgotten by the state.

Some lines we climb are like music. When they're classic it doesn't matter how many times we repeat them. They'll always hit us like it's the first time. I like to think of climbing also as an artistic process, where each person interprets the line (the music) in their way. The movements could be the same, but in the end, the climbing (the interpretation) ends up being unique, reflecting and expressing part of what we are. The same music could be executed by two different people and produce completely different emotions. In rock climbing I find a language where I can express myself beyond words, dancing as proposed by the rock. I climbed this boulder for the first time in 2011 and always thought it deserved proper documentation that captured its essence and beauty. Almost ten years later and after three years without coming to Rio, I repeated this incredible line and with the partnership of Lucas Jatobá, we made this beautiful film. Thanks also for the support of Negritude Outdoor and Buffalo Wax!
